Football is a game that draws much critisism, and for good reason. Today's game is clinical and weak, Football has lost it's character. It is for this reason I couldn't tell you the starting lineup for every Premiership team or every manager's name, however, I have never been able to.
My resolute love of Football is not in the observation, debate or knowledge, but the playing. It is possible to love the game without wasting away in front of 'Champ Manager'. I yearn to wake on a Sunday morning match day.
I set my alarm late, so there are fewer waking minutes until kick-off. My only solitary task is get ready and go. The butterflies in my stomach stop me from eating before the game. I slip-on my sky-blue armour and proudly display my allegiance. Loud music is the only soundtrack to get the blood pumping.
Arrival at the pitch is familiar, like going home after a holiday. Some teammates are there and some are yet to arrive, but the fraternal feeling is strong. Jokes and stories are passed, but everybody is eager to get started. Assume your position, then.......the whistle blows, and the war begins.
As for me, I play for Old Town Irish. It is the best level I have ever played, and I am far from a star player. I am proud to be part of it and I love each one of my team-mates. For the most part, I try to play my role and fight from the heart, so that I deserve to call them my team-mates, and that they may do the same about me.
